Guru Nanak Jayanti

Celebration of the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

  • It also known as Gurupurab or Prakash Utsav.
  • Celebrated annually on – Kartik Purnima, Gurupurab usually falls in the months of October-November.
  • It is one of the most sacred festivals in Sikhism, with devotees across India and abroad celebrating the day with fervour.

Guru Nanak Dev

  • He was 1st among the 10 gurus and the founder of the Sikh religion.
  • Born in – Talwandi, Punjab (now in Pakistan's Nankana Sahib),
  • He was deeply spiritual from a young age and at 30, experienced a divine revelation, leading him to preach a message of universal love, equality, and devotion to one God.
  • He emphasised rejecting caste distinctions, encouraged truth, honest labour and selfless service.
  • Teachings recorded in – Guru Granth Sahib, laid the foundation for Sikhism.

Social Issues

2nd edition of “District Collectors’ Peyjal Samvad”

  • Organized by – Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti.
  • Objectives – To empower district leadership to strengthen local governance, ensure source sustainability.
  • To enhance accountability in rural water service delivery under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
  • 1st Edition’s Momentum – To strengthen district and panchayat-level water governance.

District Collectors’ Peyjal Samvad series,

  • It serves as a national knowledge-sharing and peer-learning platform for District Collectors and field functionaries implementing Jal Jeevan Mission.
  • Initiated by – Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS).
  • Objective – To enables exchange of practical insights, promotes cross-learning, and builds momentum toward achieving long-term water security and service delivery sustainability across rural India.

  • Achieved under – “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” (SNSPA) campaign.
  • Nodal ministry – Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  • Records achieved –
    • Register for a health care platform in 1 month – 3.21 Crore.
    • Sign up for a breast cancer screening online in 1 week – 9.94 lakh.
    • Sign up for vital signs screening online in 1 week (at state level) – 1.25 lakh.
  • Significance – It combines government systems, digital health innovation, and community participation—to build a “Healthy Woman, Empowered Family, and Viksit Bharat”.

Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan

  • It is a nationwide health initiative inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India.
  • Nodal ministry – Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  • Conjunction with – Poshan Maah.
  • Participated by – More than 20 ministries.
  • Key outcomes include –
    • 1.78 crore hypertension screenings,
    • 1.73 crore diabetes screenings,
    • 69.5 lakh oral cancer screenings,
    • 62.6 lakh Antenatal Care check-ups,
    • 1.43 crore vaccine doses and 1.51 crore anaemia tests.
  • Objectives – To focuses on improving the health and nutrition of women, adolescent girls, and children.
  • To strengthen early detection, ensuring access to essential health services, and empowering families to adopt healthier lifestyles for a stronger and healthier India.

Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2013

  • Nodal ministry – Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.
  • Aim – To strengthen consumer protection, promote ease of doing business.
  • Inclusion of new categories – Such as flow meters, breath analysers, multi-dimensional measuring instruments, and speed guns.
  • Coverage – 18 categories of weighing and measuring instruments, including water meters, energy meters, gas meters, moisture meters, flow meters, sphygmomanometers, and non-automatic weighing instruments.
  • Significance – It aligned with the recommendations of the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML).
