Why in News?
India is participating in the inaugural United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, Switzerland.
- It covers 4 clusters of issues related to artificial intelligence.
- These clusters are
- AI’s social and economic implications,
- Bridging the global AI divide,
- Promoting safe and trustworthy AI, and
- Safeguarding human rights in the context of AI.
- A second session of this will follow in New York in May 2027
- The Global Dialogue on AI Governance is a universal, multi-stakeholder UN forum established under General Assembly Resolution 79/325.
- It is the first universal, multi-stakeholder forum on AI governance under the United Nations system.
- It is following the Global Digital Compact adopted as part of the Pact of the Future in September 2024.
- It will receive the annual report of the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI (IISPA).
- IISPA provides first independent scientific assessment of the capabilities, emerging opportunities and risks of AI.
