Why in News?
Recently, the Union Minister Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha about Bharat Taxi under the Ministry of Cooperation, aligned with the Sahkar se Samriddhi vision.
- India’s 1st cooperative-led ride-hailing digital mobility platform.
- Established in – 2025.
- Developed by – Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited.
- Nodal Ministry – Ministry of Cooperation.
- Registered under – The Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002.
- Implementation – Nationwide rollout across all states and cities by 2029.
- Key Features – Operates on – A zero-commission and surge-free pricing model, with direct distribution of profits to drivers.
- Vision – Sarathi Hi Malik (Driver is the owner).
- Indigenisation – Homegrown cooperative alternative to foreign investment-based aggregator platforms.
- Social Security – Health insurance, accident insurance, retirement savings, and a dedicated driver support system for Sarathis.
- Safety & Flexibility – Rapid emergency assistance, verified ride data, live tracking, and freedom for drivers to work on multiple platforms without exclusivity restrictions.
The vision of Sahkar-se-Samriddhi (Prosperity through Cooperation) aims to strengthen cooperatives, expand their grassroots reach, and enhance their performance and profitability.
- Charges – No platform fee, convenience fee, or commission in-app; 7% service charge at airport prepaid booths for operational expenses.
- Women Empowerment – Bike Didi initiative with over 150 women drivers onboarded to promote women’s livelihood and safety.
- Infrastructure – Seven help centres in Delhi to support drivers and ensure grievance redressal.
- Ecosystem – State-level help centres, strengthened driver social security, and integration with national digital public infrastructure.
