Why in News?

Recently, Ministry of Ayush Advances Scientific Research through AyurGyan Scheme and Apex Research councils.

  • AYUSH - Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Sowa Rigpa healthcare sector.
  • It is a Central Sector Scheme focused on enhancing capacity and promoting research and innovation in Ayush systems of medicine.
  • Duration - 2021-22 to 2025-26.
  • Implemented by - Ministry of Ayush and operates through a Project Sanctioning Committee (PSC) for approval and sanctioning of projects.
  • Objectives - It supports Ayush institutions with training materials, CME courses, research projects, and the development of interdisciplinary linkages.
  • The scheme also encourages the use of information technology for disseminating Ayush developments and promoting evidence-based practices.
  • Components - The Scheme has 3 components
    • Capacity Building & Continuing Medical Education (CME) in Ayush
    • Research & Innovation in Ayush
    • Ayurveda Biology Integrated Health Research
  • Capacity building and continuing medical education (cme) in Ayush - It involves ongoing professional training and development initiatives for Ayush healthcare professionals, including doctors, teachers, and paramedics.
  • It aims to enhance their knowledge, skills, and clinical practices to keep pace with emerging trends and advancements in the Ayush healthcare sector.
  • Research & Innovation in Ayush - It entails the exploration and development of new therapies, drugs, and practices within the Ayush systems of medicine.
  • It aims to advance scientific validation, safety, efficacy, and quality control of Ayush products and therapies while promoting interdisciplinary approaches for holistic healthcare solutions.
  • Ayurveda Biology Integrated Health Research Programme – It aims to bridge traditional Ayurveda principles with modern sciences like molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, and bioinformatics.
  • Through high-impact research studies, it seeks to generate evidence, standardize integrative protocols.
  • It will also develop a comprehensive understanding of Ayurveda's principles, fostering the potential integration of Ayurveda practices into national healthcare programs.
