Why in News?
Recently, Prime Minister inaugurated the Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandira, dedicated to the late seer Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadharanatha Maha Swamiji.
Sri Guru Bhairavaikya Mandira
- Dedication – Memorial honouring Balagangadharanatha Swamiji, noted for expanding the Math’s contributions in education, healthcare, and social service.
- Venue – Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math, Mandya District, Karnataka.
- Located within the historic Adichunchanagiri Math, alongside Jwala Peetha and Sri Kalabhairaveshwara Temple.
- Architecture – Constructed in traditional Dravidian style.
Balagangadharanatha Swamiji
- Balagangadharanatha Swamiji was the 71st pontiff of the Math.
- Posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2013 for his distinguished service to society.
- Key Contributions
- Educational Expansion – Established 500+ institutions (primary to professional) to provide for rural and underprivileged children.
- Referred to as "Vidya Samrat" for his role in establishing one of India's largest educational networks
- Healthcare Initiatives – Founded modern hospitals and rural health centres to democratize access to quality medical care.
- Social Reform – Empowered rural communities by blending spiritual devotion with practical social responsibility.
- Environmental Protection – Launched conservation movements, notably for peacock protection, linking ecology with cultural values.
- Institutional Legacy – Transformed the Adichunchanagiri Math into a global hub for spirituality and humanitarian service.

Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math

- Adichunchanagiri Math is a prominent socio-spiritual centre and the spiritual headquarters of the Natha Parampare (Nath tradition) historically associated with Shaiva tradition.

- It is a significant pilgrimage site with a reported history spanning over 1,500 to 2,000 years

- Math guides society through nine principles – Anna, Akshara, Aarogya, Adhyatma, Aashraya, Aranya, Aakalu, Anukampa, Anubandha.
