Why in news?

On National Energy Conservation Day 2025, the President of India honored the recipients of the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA).

  • Organized by – The awards are instituted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power.
  • Edition – This was the 35th edition of the awards, 1st established in 1991.
  • Purpose – To honors industries, transport bodies, buildings, and institutions that demonstrate leadership in reducing energy consumption and promoting energy efficiency.
  • 7 Categories – Industry, Buildings, Transport, Institutions, Appliances, Innovation, and Professional categories.
  • Participation – 558 applicants were finalized for consideration across 28 sub-sectors.
  • New Category – For the first time, the Social Media Influencers and Digital Content Creators was introduced, acknowledging their role in spreading awareness.
  • Awards Distributed – 25 First Prizes, 5 Second Prizes, 26 Certificates of Merit (CoM), 3 Certificates of Recognition (CoR) for Innovation.

Winners

  • State Performance Awards -
    • 1st Prize – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Assam, and Chandigarh.
    • 2nd Prize – Maharashtra, Telangana, Punjab, Goa, and Tripura.
  • Notable Organizational Winners -
    • Brahma Kumaris (Jagdamba Bhavan, Pune) - First Prize in the institutional category.
    • Atomberg – Won in the Ceiling Fan category for the third consecutive year.
    • Daikin India – Awarded for the most energy-efficient Air Conditioner.
