Why in News?

To strengthen Maternal & child healthcare Union Heath Ministry has recently launched a comprehensive digital platform called JANANI.

  • Type - It is a service-oriented digital platform that monitors and maintains longitudinal health records of women during their reproductive age.
  • Aims – To provide maternal and child health services, real-time monitoring, and digital record management across India.
  • Background Upgraded version of the existing Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal.
  • Coverage Includes - Family planning, Antenatal care (ANC) & Delivery preparedness, Postnatal care & newborn care, Home – based newborn

Features

  • QR-Enabled Digital Mother & child Heath cardsHas been introduced for easy portability & access to health records nationwide.
  • It supports continuity of records for pregnant women, mothers, and newborns through a single digital system.
  • Interoperability Integration with national platforms such as Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA), U‑WIN and POSHAN, enabling seamless data exchange and improved coordination across programmes.

ABHA -  Ayushman Bharat Health Account is used for digital health record linkage in India.

U-WIN digital platform - Is linked with immunization services under India’s public health system.

POSHAN Abhiyaan is - India’s flagship nutrition mission for child  & women.

  • Self‑RegistrationFacilities through web and mobile platforms, empowering beneficiaries to actively engage with their healthcare journey.
  • Authentication Beneficiary registration using ABHA, Aadhaar, and mobile number with pan‑India search functionality to prevent duplication and ensure continuity of care for migratory populations.
  • JANANI has - Registered 1.34 crore beneficiaries & has recorded more than 30 lakh pregnant women, completed more than one lakh biometric verification and over 30 lakh digital health cards generated.
  • Automated AlertsFor high‑risk pregnancies, due‑list generation, and immunisation reminders.
  • Real‑Time Dashboards Supervisory review and monitoring for accountability.
  • Continuum of Care Antenatal visits, delivery preparedness, institutional delivery, neonatal care, home‑based child care, and family planning.
  • Support Functions Scheduling Antenatal Care (ANC) visits, monitoring immunisations, alerts and reminders, access to nearby healthcare facilities, expected place of delivery, health education, and nutritional guidance.
