Cholesterol-based Nanomaterials
Scientists from Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), have introduced cholesterol-based nanomaterials.
- Cholesterol – It is a fat like waxy substance throughout the body.
- Role – Used to build cells and make vitamins and other hormones.
- 2 sources –
- Human liver makes all the cholesterol you need.
- Foods from animals. For example, meat, poultry and dairy products all contain dietary cholesterol.
- Newly discovered properties – It enables precise control over molecular properties due to its intrinsic handedness (chirality) and flexibility.
- Significance – It is an ideal platform for constructing supramolecular based spintronic materials.
|
Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST)
- It is an autonomous institution under Department of Science and Technology (DST).
- Started in – 2013.
