Shrimad Vijayaratna Sunder Surishwarji Maharaj’s 500th book

  • Subject of book – “Premnu Vishva, Vishvano Prem” (The World of Love, The Love of the World)
  • Key highlights
    • It provides simple and spiritual solutions to humanity’s many problems.
    • Depending on time and circumstance, each text serves as a beacon of guidance.
    • The teachings of non-violence, non-possessiveness, and many-sidedness, along with love, tolerance, and harmony, imparted by our Tirthankaras and earlier Acharyas, can be seen in modern and contemporary form in these writings.

Social Issues

Zero-Fatalities Program

  • Initiative by – Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in collaboration with the Save Life Foundation.
  • Targets – 100 districts across 15 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
  • The rationale for the program is that 63% of road fatalities occur outside National Highways.
  • Local factors – Such as road design, law enforcement, and hospital preparedness are critical to reducing fatalities.
  • Report 2023-24 – 89,000 deaths in the 100 targeted districts and identified 17,331 critical crash locations.
  • Common types of crashes – It includes rear-end collisions (26%), head-on collisions (23%), and pedestrian incidents (23%).
  • Program Framework
    • Conduct engineering audits.
    • Implement low-cost safety interventions.
    • Enhance trauma care by improving ambulance response and first responder training.
  • Committee Structure – The committee will include District Collectors, Transport Ministers, and Members of Parliament.

International Relations and Issues

International Solar Alliance (ISA)

India will continue to work with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and support solar adoption and energy transition goals.

  • The 125-member alliance was conceptualised on the sidelines of COP21 in Paris in 2015.
  • Instituted by – Indian Prime Minister and President of France Francois Hollande.
  • Objective – To unlock $1 trillion in solar investments by 2030 whilst reducing technology and financing costs relating to solar implementation.
  • Note – At present, India holds the presidency of the alliance with France as the co-chair.

U.S – Withdrawals

On January 7, the United States issued an executive order to withdraw from 66 international organizations, including the Solar Alliance, which were described as “wasteful, ineffective or harmful.”

  • Coverage – 31 United Nations entities and 35 non-UN bodies, thereby altering the United States' role in global governance.
  • According to a White House fact sheet – These withdrawals will end American taxpayer funding and involvement in entities that advance globalist agendas over U.S. priorities.

'New India, New Kerala' conclave series (Kerala Kaumudi Conclave)

  • Held in – Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
  • Organised by – Kerala Kaumudi.
  • Part of – 114th anniversary celebrations of Kerala Kaumudi.
  • Objective –
    • To clearly mark the development goals that Kerala can
    • achieve in the next 20 years.
    • To draw the attention of the people and the government to them.

Comprehensive Health Pavilion

  • Held at – Vibrant Gujarat Regional Exhibition 2026.
  • Established by – Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  • Theme – “Swasthya Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”.
  • Objective – To promote preventive healthcare, enhancing public awareness about various Government health programmes, and encouraging active community engagement.
  • Significance – It reflects the Government of India’s commitment to strengthening public health systems and fostering a healthy, resilient, and empowered society.

New Insights on Solar Storms

Aditya-L1 observations have yielded new insights into the effects of intense solar storms on Earth's magnetic field.

  • Source – ISRO study published in “The Astrophysical Journal” (December 2024).
  • Event Analysed – Major space weather event occurring in October 2024.
  • Key findings
  • A turbulent region within the solar storm caused significant compression of Earth's magnetic field.
  • This compression brought the magnetic field unusually close to Earth, thereby exposing geostationary satellites to increased risk.
  • Currents in the auroral region became highly intensified, resulting in upper atmospheric heating and enhanced atmospheric escape.

Security

India’s Maritime Legacy

The Indian Navy is participating in the New Delhi World Book Fair 2026.

  • Initiated by – The Naval History Division (NHD), the premier research institution of the Indian Navy.
  • Objective – To reaffirm its commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich maritime legacy.
  • Key highlight – The release of a book on the Indian Navy, prepared by the Naval History Division, is to be unveiled by the Chief of the Naval Staff at a grand event.

53rd edition of the New Delhi World Book Fair 2026

  • Organised by – National Book Trust, India (under the Ministry of Education, Government of India)
  • Theme – ‘Indian Military History: Valour & Wisdom @ 75’, highlighting significant moments, contributions and narratives of India’s defence forces.
  • Participation from – Over 35 countries, more than 1,000 publishers, 3,000+ stalls, 600 literary and cultural events, and over 1,000 speakers, making it one of the largest literary gatherings in the world.

Uttar Pradesh Regional AI Impact Conference 2026

  • It is part of the national series of eight Regional AI Impact Conferences being organised across the country.
  • Hosted by – IndiaAI and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), with Government of UP.
  • Objective – To demonstrate real-world AI deployments across health systems, digital public infrastructure and state-led use cases, while fostering collaboration between governments, industry, academia and startups under the IndiaAI framework.
