Uttarakhand – 6th  Fully Literate State

Uttarakhand has become the 6th fully literate State in the country after achieving the prescribed adult literacy benchmarks.

  • In India, a "fully literate state" signifies reaching an adult literacy rate of 95% or higher.
  • Under
    • National Education Policy 2020
    • ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society – New India Literacy Programme).
  • With this achievement, Uttarakhand joins Mizoram, Goa, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim on the list of fully literate states.

3rd BRICS Transport Working Group (TWG) Meeting

  • Place - Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Borjuli wetland

Assam’s Borjuli wetland notified as Biodiversity Heritage Site for wild rice conservation.

  • Borjuli Wetland is a freshwater swamp located in Assam.
  • Notified under - The Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
    • Convention – Convention on Biological Diversity, 1992.
  • The wild rice species, Oryza rufipogon, is the predecessor of present-day cultivated rice, Oryza sativa.
  • It is resistant to pests and diseases and can tolerate flooding and saline conditions.
  • Useful for developing climate-resilient crop varieties.

P-8i Maritime Patrol Aircraft

  • It is a long-range, multi-mission maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft operated by Indian Navy.
  • Speed & Range - Maximum speed of 789 km/h with an operating range of over 2,222 km and the endurance to conduct 10-hour missions.
  • P-8I aircraft
    • It is based on the Boeing Next-Generation 737-800.
    • Capable for carrying air-to-surface missiles.
  • Used for
    • Anti-submarine warfare (ASW).
    • Anti-surface warfare (ASuW).
    • Intelligence, surveillance.
    • Reconnaissance (ISR) missions across the Indian Ocean Region.

Parrot BornaVirus 4 (PaBV-4)

Scientists for the first time in India, identified a virus PaBV-4 causes deaths in captive psittacine birds.

  • It is a deadly bird virus.
  • Caused by - Avian bornavirus.
  • It affects the digestive and nervous systems of birds.
  • Infection was detected in almost 88% of the dead birds and 19% of the healthy cage mates, underlining how the virus can affect without showing outward symptoms.
  • It is a strain previously reported in Canada, Israel, Japan, South Korea, and the U.S.
  • Psittacine, resembling a parrot, describes the bird family Psittacidae and order Psittaciformes.
    • It includes budgerigars, cockatiels, cockatoos, lovebirds, macaws, and parakeets.

Awiqli – Insulin Injection

Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk launched an insulin injection, Awiqli, in India aiming to compete with daily-dose options on the market.

  • Awiqli – World’s 1st once-weekly long-acting basal insulin offers steady background insulin support for adults with  type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
  • It is designed to reduce the number of injections from 365 per year to 52.
  • India’s Diabetes Status – Has a massive diabetes burden, with over 101 million people living with the disease, 136 million with prediabetes, and insulin therapy use projected to rise from 6 to 9 million in the near future.

Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana (PMCSPY)

  • The West Bengal government recently announced implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana.
  • Type – Central Sector Scheme.
  • Aim - To improve healthcare, education and basic amenities for tea garden workers and their families across North Bengal.
  • It aims to benefit 1o lakh tea plantation workers in Assam and West Bengal.

Global Energy Independence Day

  • Celebrated annually on – July 10 (1st observed in 2006).
  • The date was chosen to honour the birthday of pioneering inventor Nikola Tesla.
  • Promotes – Awareness for alternative forms of energy for fossil fuels.
  • The day offers opportunities to learn more about renewable forms of energy, such as solar, wind, and geothermal.

Bukhman International Booker Prize

  • The International Booker Prize has officially been renamed the Bukhman International Booker Prize.
  • It is a prize for translated fiction book.
  • Bukhman Philanthropies funds the prize for the next 10 years with doubling the prize money from £50,000 to £100,000.
  • Prize money evenly distributed between the author and translator.

Happy City Index, 2026

Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan has secured the 6th place in Happy City Index, 2026.

  • About the Index – It reveals the world’s happiest cities, where strong community vibes, green spaces, and local culture matter far more than size.
  • Residents were asked to evaluate their cities not only on food, art, and nightlife, but also on community strength, ease of finding love, and overall happiness of living there.
  • Top Happiest Cities – Bath (England), Panama City (Panama), Guadalajara (Mexico), etc.
