Meeting of Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH)

  • Key highlights – 30 GHz radio frequency has been allocated by the Department of Telecommunications for the development of vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems.

  • Aim – To focus on “Measures for Reduction in Road Accidents and Fatalities”, emphasizing a multi-pronged and coordinated approach to curb road accidents and save lives.

Governors of States: Policy Address Controversy

  • Constitutional provision – Under Article 176, the Governor must deliver a special address at the 1st session each year and after general elections.

  • Nature – The address presents the State government’s policies and programmes, not the Governor’s personal opinions.

Economy

Promotion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Ecosystem

  • MoU between – Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and World Economic Forum (WEF).

  • Collaborative launch – A Skills Accelerator in India, a multistakeholder platform aimed at identifying, scaling, and accelerating innovative solutions and public–private partnerships to address critical skills gaps in the workforce.

  • Objective – To collaborate on strengthening India’s skills and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem.

PLI Scheme for White Goods

Five companies selected under PLI White Goods Scheme.

  • The scheme offers incentives ranging from 6% to 4% on a reducing basis on incremental sales for a period of 5 years, following the base year and a one-year gestation period.

  • Domestic Value Addition is expected to increase from the current 20–25% to 75–80%.

  • Objectives – To create a robust domestic component ecosystem for the Air Conditioners and LED Lights industry.

  • To position India as an integral part of the global supply chains.

White Goods

  • “White goods” are large household appliances used for everyday chores, mainly found in the kitchen and laundry.

  • Examples include refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers.

  • These appliances are durable goods, designed to last for several years.

  • White goods do not include entertainment appliances such as televisions, home cinemas, camcorders, CD and DVD players, which are included in the brown goods category.

India Energy Week (IEW) 2026

  • Held from – 27 to 30 January at ONGC ATI, Goa.

  • Objective – To focus on strengthening energy security, catalysing investment and advancing practical decarbonisation pathways.

Humanoid Robot ‘ASC ARJUN’

  • Deployed by – Indian Railways Deploys at Visakhapatnam Railway Station.

  • Fully designed and developed in – Visakhapatnam using home-grown technology.

  • Equipped to - Assist in intrusion detection through Face Recognition System (FRS), AI-based crowd monitoring, and real-time alerts to RPF control rooms.

  • Features -

    • Semi-autonomous navigation along predefined paths and obstacle avoidance,

    • Patrol platforms round the clock,

    • Supporting effective surveillance while optimising manpower deployment.

    • Fire and smoke detection systems to enable timely response in emergency situations.

Miscellaneous

National Girl Child Day

  • Observed annually on – 24th January.

  • Initiated in – 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD).

  • Objective – To raise awareness about gender discrimination, promote equal opportunities, and foster an environment where girls can thrive as empowered citizens.

  • Significance – It aligns effectively with India's vision of women-led development and Viksit Bharat by 2047.
