Jeevan Raksha Padak Awards

• Awarded for brave and humane acts in saving human lives.
• Includes rescues during incidents like drowning in water, accidents, fire incidents, electrocution, landslides, animal attack and rescue operations in mines, etc.

Categories

Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak

It is awarded for conspicuous courage in saving life under circumstances of very great danger to the life of the rescuer.

Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak

It is awarded for courage and promptitude in saving life under circumstances of great danger to the life of the rescuer.

Jeevan Raksha Padak

It is awarded for courage and promptitude in saving life under circumstances of grave bodily injury to the rescuer.

Provisions

 Instituted in

• Instituted in the year 1961, as an offshoot of the Ashoka Chakra series of Gallantry awards

Eligibility

• Persons in all walks of life are eligible for these awards.

• Members of the Armed Forces, Police Forces and recognised Fire Service, etc., are also eligible for these Awards if the lifesaving act is performed by them.

• The award can also be conferred Posthumously.

Nominations

• Invited yearly from all State/UT Governments and Central Ministries/Departments.

Recommendation of

• Jeevan Raksha Padak Award Committee forwards recommendations to the Prime Minister and President.

Presented by

• After approval by the President, it is presented to the awardees by the respective Union Ministries/Organizations/State Government to which the awardee belongs.

Award components

• The decoration of the award consists of a Medal, a certificate signed by the Union Home Minister and a monetary allowance.

A one-time monetary allowance is given,

• Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak – Rs.1,50,000
• Jeevan Raksha Padak – Rs.1,00,000
