Why in news?

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 8th Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly in New Delhi.

  • Held in – New Delhi, from October 27 to 30, 2025.
  • Hosted by – Government of India in partnership with the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

Initiatives unveiled by India

  • SUNRISE — Solar Upcycling Network for Recycling, Innovation & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Aim – To unite governments, industries, and innovators to transform solar waste and equipment into drivers of sustainable growth, circular innovation, and job creation.
  • OSOWOG initiative – One Sun One World One Grid
    • It introduce a transnational electricity grid that supplies power worldwide.
    • Identifies priority links – East Asia-South Asia, South Asia-Middle East, Middle East-Europe & Europe-Africa, enabling clean energy trade and greater energy resilience over the next decade.
  • Global Capability Centre (GCC) & ISA Academy
    • The GCC, a hub-and-spoke network connecting national research and training institutions under a new Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C) model.
    • Aim – To foster R&D, innovation, and digital capacity-building through the ISA Academy, an AI-driven learning platform that provides personalised solar knowledge access worldwide.
  • SIDS Procurement Platform
    • Aim – To boost energy security & affordability by streamlining demand, financing, and capacity for resilient solar systems in the Caribbean, Pacific, and Indian Ocean regions.
    • Collaboration – ISA + World Bank.

Highlights from President’s ISA address

  • Renewable energy achievements – India ranks 4th in total renewable energy capacity; 3rd in solar power generation; 4th in wind power.
  • India’s solar capacity has surpassed 120 GW, progressing toward 500 GW by 2030.
  • Future Goals – By 2050, India aims to be a global hub for solar innovation, manufacturing, and knowledge exchange.
  • Inclusive Initiatives – Solar for All” - Aims to bring solar power to the poorest households, not just the privileged & “Solar for She” - Empowers women as solar engineers, entrepreneurs, and trainers.
