Why in News?
Recently, the Jiyo Parsi Scheme has facilitated the birth of over 490 Parsi children.
It is a unique Central Sector Scheme for arresting the population decline of the Parsi community.
Launched in – 2013.
Implemented by – TheMinistry of Minority Affairs through State Governments with the assistance of respective Parsi Institutions.
Objectives –
To reverse the declining trend of the Parsi population through scientific protocols and structured interventions
To stabilize and increase the Parsi population in India.
Beneficiaries –
Parsi couples.
Dependent elderly family members.
Children of Parsi couples.
Income Criteria – Annual family income below Rs.30 lakh for medical treatment related to childbearing.
Annual family income below Rs.15 lakh for child and elderly care assistance.
Components – Medical Assistance – Financial assistance for medical treatment under standard medical protocol.
Health of Community(HoC) – Financial support to motivate Parsi couples to have more children and to care for dependent elderly family members and children.
Advocacy – Counselling, outreach programmes, seminars, medical camps, publicity material, advocacy films, and use of social media for awareness.
App –Beneficiary Satyapan App used for biometric authentication of beneficiaries.
Portal – Two dedicated online portals, the Medical Portal (2024) and the HoC Portal (2025), to facilitate Parsi couples in submitting and monitoring their applications.
Significance – Addresses demographic decline of a minority community through structured and scientific interventions.
Uses Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for financial assistance.
Use of online portals and biometric authentication to improve transparency, monitoring, and delivery.
