Vizag Hyperscale Data Centre – Google Cloud AI Hub
- It is a digital infrastructure plan, linked to new undersea cables connecting India directly to other countries.
- Significance – It will be India’s 2nd major internet gateway on the east coast.
- Reducing reliance on risky routes like the Red Sea, and boosting demand for advanced computer chips.
- Capacity – A huge hyperscale hub, needing massive electricity (1 GW) to run powerful AI systems.
- Challenges – Adequate power supply, land, and water (about 20 million litres daily), and backup diesel generators could pollute the air.
- Concerns – India may become too dependent on one foreign company (Google), and the project skipped full environmental checks, despite the area already having very low groundwater levels.

Genes & Pigmentation – CCMB Study
Recently, CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) scientists identify rare gene behind Indian girl’s red hair.
- MC1R (Melanocortin 1 Receptor) gene – MC1R gene determines the type of melanin produced in the body.
- Eumelanin – Gives dark brown or black colour.
- Pheomelanin – Gives red or yellow hues.
- Researchers identified a rare MC1R variant (c.872C>A) in the child using genome sequencing, a mutation breaks the normal function of the MC1R protein and it caused the child to grow red hair.
- Genome sequencing – It is a high-tech laboratory method used to read the entire DNA genome of a person.
- Genome – A genome is the full set of DNA instructions in a cell.
- In humans, it includes 23 pairs of chromosomes in the nucleus and a small chromosome in the mitochondria.
- It carries all the information needed for growth and functioning.
- Distribution – Higher in Bodh (Ladakh); lower in Dravidian tribal groups.
