Fertiliser Outlook
India has adequate fertiliser stocks, especially urea, to meet upcoming Kharif season (June–Sept) needs.
- Concern – Prolonged conflict in West Asia could disrupt imports of raw materials (rock phosphate, phosphoric acid), affecting the Rabi season (Oct–Apr).
- Government measures – Central procurement of DAP and DSP ensures backup supply; gas imports from Australia and the Middle East remain stable.
- Outlook – No immediate concerns for farmers; FACT assures uninterrupted supply and calls the situation “temporary.”

- South India’s largest supplier.
- Holds 1.4 lakh metric tons in stock and can produce 1.5 lakh metric tons by April 2026.

The progressive increase in obesity and abdominal obesity in India represents a significant and evolving metabolic crisis.
- Concern - Asian Indians often develop abdominal obesity at normal BMI, a pattern tied to higher insulin resistance, ectopic fat buildup, and earlier metabolic disease onset.
- Metabolic crisis contributes to – The rising prevalence of
- Type 2 diabetes,
- Cardiovascular disease,
- Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and associated cardiometabolic disorders.
- 5th National Family Health Survey’s data – Abdominal obesity affects 40% of women and 12% of men in India, and it is spreading beyond urban, affluent groups into rural and lower socioeconomic populations.
